Cameroonian international, Samuel Eto’o Fls, is now officially a Chelsea player after he signed a one year contract with the London team Thursday, August 28, 2013. There are press reports he will be pad £7 million and he signed a free transfer with the London Club. Chelsea will officially present Eto’o Fils to fans and the press later today friday August 30, 2013.
Agreeing to put his signature to paper means Samuel Eto’o now officially transfers his startling football and goal scoring playing skills from one Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimov to another London based Russian moneybags Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea Football club.
The € 20 Million (after tax ) Eto’o Fils earned with Russian Club Anzhi Makhachkala made him the highest paid footballer on earth.
Mr Kerimov, owner of Anzhi Makhachkala earlier this year indicated he wanted to reduce the huge salary he was paying to renowned international players like Eto’o Fils, to lure them to play for his team in the Russian league.
After signing for Chelsea, the three time Champions league winner and four time African player of the year Eto’o Fils told the Chelsea website “ I am very happy to be here. ..it wasn’t a hard decision. I saw the qualities Chelsea have, and I was very happy with Jose Mourinho before, so when the opportunity came, I was very happy to take it”.
On whether he always wanted to play in the English premier league, Eto’o said, “ I’ve had a couple of opportunities to come to England before , including the first time Jose was here, but it didn’t work out for one reason or another. Since that time, I have had a career where I was lucky enough to win a lot of trophies in different countries, but one of my last dreams as a professional is to come and play in England…”
At 32, Eto Fils might have his best playing days behind him but he is still a fantastic goal scoring machine and finally has the second chance to play for old/new emblematic Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
Eto’o now joins a long line of distinguished African football players who have played for Chelsea including Ivorian Didier Drogba and Michael Essen from Ghana.
