Two years before the 2016 general elections, one of the two dominant rival parties in Ghana, the opposition National Patriotic Party NPP is preparing to hold its national congress on Saturday April 12 2014 during which officials are expected to be elected who will represent the party. Excerpt for last minute politicking turns against him, former foreign Minister and NPP presidential flag bearer for the 2012 elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, 70 will most likely be voted the party’s presidential candidate
Initially scheduled for March 1 2014, the congress was postponed in order to respect constitutional procedures by holding the elections at a centralized venue. The Tamale Sports Stadium was tactically chosen in reverence to the late former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama who hailed from the region.
In an Interview with Ghana News Agency, John Bosco Abase, Northern Regional Director of Sports assured supporters and card carrying members of the NPP that everything has been done to make sure the congress is hitch free.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo who lost to the incumbent President John Mahama during the 2012 general elections is expected to get support from the party to again stand as NPP flag bearer during the 2016 presidential elections.
