One time boy band university acapella singing group member Honore Fon aka Jaam has gone back to the recording studio to release a new single he has titled ironically “I am single. He started singing as part of a boy band 17 years ago.
At 35, Jaam, like the title of his song suggests, is still very single but the single ladies out there should not rush; he told Iroko Africa he has already settled on one of his well…”conquests” and will soon marry so vacancy filled.
Work on the single which he wrote some years ago is already at an advanced stage and Jaam promises to release the song by the end of November 2013 so watch out for this one.
Jaam was one of a seven man university acapella singing group Flavour Drops created in 1996 in the University of Yaounde. The group only disbanded in 2001 when most of its members traveled abroad or had other jobs. Other members of Flavour Drops were Asu Rudolf, Ronnegs, Nsemndip Tabot, Boma Gideon.
The group composed a couple of songs but also did covers for well known songs and performed at weddings and other social occasions across Cameroon.
17 years after he started singing and writing songs, Jaam has not forgotten his passion for music. He has a back catalog of songs he has written and has written songs for some Cameroonian musicians. His love for music made him create all girl band Afrigirl and the group is made up of Rita and Bibiana, Lu.
Their hit singing “Dancify” was recently released to critical acclaim but the girls are still struggling to get their musical feet off the ground. Jaam writes all the songs and produces Afrigirl. He is also the group’s manager.
“I have always written songs, my earliest song was written when I was about 9 years old” Jaam tells Iroko Africa in a brief chat.
“I just love music, I have no explanations about that and no apologies, I think music is in my blood” he adds.
“I always knew somehow I was going to get back to my music and releasing this single will be my best shot at getting there” he notes.
Jaam is refining his singing now and does not want any fans to buy him any more “Guinness Smooths” again as their contribution to his musical revival.
Look out for “I am single” from a music store near you very soon
