France based charity organization Melting Pot Development (MPD) has been named as the overall winner in the charity category after it attracted almost 3000 “likes” on the official face book page of Cameroonian international/Chelsea star Samuel Eto’o Fils. In a short statement Samuel Eto’o said;
“It is therefore with great pleasure that I announce that the winning organization of the contest is: Melting Pot Development (MPD) with 2934 likes as of March 10, 2014 (12PM GMT). Congratulations MPD, you’ve won 7,500 Euros!
I hope to have the pleasure to visit the library that will be built soon”.
MPD operates in six countries viz Cameroon, Gabon, Congo Senegal, France and Canada. They were shortlisted because of their present project to build or renovate libraries in Douala, Libreville and Pointe Noire.
According to its website, MPD was created by a group of friends who had the same dream to promote education/healthy living for underprivileged children. It focuses on education, health, food security and social integration. It already has some high profile supporters including Total, AES Sonel, Tradex, SHIC among others. The 7500 Euro prize win will help in building and renovating new libraries in three African cities. MPD beat the four other shortlisted charities which were Allcamers, OPERATION Mô wa yé BICE, Ajuda’m to viure and John Dau Foundation.
Though he earlier announced he will not be publishing the name of the winner in the individual category for personal security reasons, Samuel Eto’o said he will name the winner by tomorrow Saturday March 15th 2014 after sifting through the hundreds of entries he received.
The Cameroonian international and Chelsea English premiership attacker announced he will be giving away 15.000 Euros to two worthy winners in an individual and charity category to mark his 33rd birthday on March 10 2014 as a thank you gesture to his millions of fans around the world.
Entries for the individual category were closed at mid day on March 10th 2014.
