A South African judge is scheduled to rule today February 25 2013 if parts of the trial of one of South Africa’s best known athletes Oscar Pistorious will be televised. The “blade runner” athlete has admitted shooting and killing his model girlfriend Reeva Steenhamp on St Valentine’s day 2013 after mistaking her for an intruder.
Prosecutors however claim the shooting was well planned and executed by the prize winning double amputee paralympian who runs with prosthetic legs.
There has been huge interest in the case from the media both in South Africa and around the world since details of the shooting emerged more than a year ago. Pistorious has since lost all his sponsorship deals and has not taken part in any competitions following the shootings.
Some analysts have dubbed the case South Africa’s version of the OJ Simpson murder trial in the USA in 1994. The American star was famously acquitted in that trial after jurors found him not guilty of killing his ex wife Nicole Simpson and her friend
